NIMENA CONFERENCE 2026
Advancing Maritime Sovereignty: Local Capacity, Decarbonisation and Domestic Fleet Development
[November 2026] | [University of ]
Researchers and maritime professionals are invited to submit original research, technical studies and evidence-based policy papers on four tracks:
- Classification and standards: Local inspection capacity, vessel safety and structural requirements suited to West African waters.
- Green shipping: Vessel retrofits, alternative fuels, emissions reduction and the technical and commercial viability of cleaner operations.
- Cabotage and shipbuilding: Domestic fleet development, shipyard capacity, materials, modular construction and cabotage implementation.
- Hydrodynamics of domestic craft: Hull design, resistance, propulsion and stability for coastal, inland and shallow-draught vessels.
Submissions should present a clear research question, sound methods and findings with practical relevance to West African maritime development.
Authors of selected papers may be invited to submit expanded manuscripts to the African Journal of Offshore, Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture (AJOMENA). Journal submissions remain subject to editorial assessment and peer review.
